Inspired by the revolutionary spirit of Japan’s Gutai Art Association, the design aims to echo Gutai’s rebellious creativity through intricate ink patterns and a symbolic red thread.
The conceptual design of this zine draws inspiration from word Gutai: “present concrete proof that our spirit is free”.
With the celebrative and challenging spirit of Gutai, the concept design incorporates ink patterns, a red thread, and a curated selection of Gutai images to create a visual narrative of a figure striving to escape the confines of the book. The red thread weaving through the pages as a metaphorical lifeline guiding the reader through the zine and echoing with the movement's spirit to break the boundaries.
“Cocoon” is a spatial design inspired by Gutai. At its core, it features a captivating 360-degree swing enveloped by a circle of thin veils. As participants sway gently on the swing, each letter anchored to the ground triggers a unique story about Gutai.
“Cocoon” offers more than just visual stimulation; it aims to provide a tangible experience in every sense. The veils, adorned with projected generative visual, respond dynamically to the sound participants make, transforming the space into a symphony of movement and interaction. With every noise made by the audience, “Cocoon” comes alive, offering a multisensory journey through the spirit of Gutai. Step inside, swing, and create your own art.
